Friends -
Most of us have never had to choose between paying the power bill and buying groceries. At least I haven't.
Even when I was a “kinda sorta poor" young married, I never even considered going hungry.
I'm not opposed to helping folks overseas…if you're doing mission trips to serve, well done! But over the last 11 years, we've come to see how many needs there are right around our own corners…
The Larkin Group adopted the
St. George Basket Brigade over a decade ago, and every single year, more families are nominated to receive a Thanksgiving meal.
Last year, we delivered to 365 homes…we're already at 215 nominations this year, and we're still weeks away from the event.
Here's how it works:
Local families in need are nominated by people who know their situation. More than half are nominated by Washington County school counselors who see which kids are going hungry.
On delivery day (Nov. 22), our volunteers pack the baskets with all the meal ingredients and deliver them to the assigned homes.
If the look on recipients' faces is priceless, the joy the volunteers experience is beyond compare.
These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet. These are neighbors within a few miles (or blocks) of your house, wondering how they'll provide Thanksgiving for their families.
While we're scrolling through pictures of perfectly roasted birds and Pinterest-worthy table settings, real people need our help.
This year, it will cost about $65.00 to provide a family with a full Thanksgiving meal to prepare in their own home.
Every bit helps, whether it's $10 or $650.00 that most of our Corporate partners contribute (let me know if your business would like to get involved).
How you can help:
If you're aware of a family in need, you can nominate them on the same page and sign up to deliver baskets on November 22nd.
It takes two minutes, and you'll actually make a difference in someone's Thanksgiving.
This is what I love about this area. We take care of each other.
Now let's make an impact,
-Jeremy "Basket Case" Larkin
