5 Lessons From our Wedding 🤵👸
Friends-
We tied the knot! Or whatever the kids say these days. Only—we're not kids.
I turned 50 this summer, and apparently, Hallmark owes me royalties because I actually did marry my best friend.
Beyond the magic of the day itself, here are five life (and real estate) lessons we learned from our wedding:
1. Don't wish it away—it goes faster than you think.
Big events come with months of buildup—planning, emotions, stress—and then POOF, they're gone. Our wedding felt like it was forever away, until suddenly it wasn't.
On our honeymoon drive down Spanish Fork Canyon, I told Jen, “Dang it, babe, I'm sad. That weekend was so special, and just like that, it's over.”
Life's big moments arrive and vanish on their own schedule. No need to rush them—they'll fly by quickly enough.
2. Big (important) moves bring resistance. Expect it.
Two days before the wedding, we both hit the wall.
I had not one but two migraines. On top of that, my bike tire exploded coming down a dirt road in Park City. Meanwhile, Jen confessed she'd spent the day crying.
By 11 PM, we were hiding from the kids in the bathroom, asking each other: “Are we really doing this?”
Yes, we did do it, and it was everything we hoped for and more.
3. Hard doesn't mean wrong. It often means that it's right.
The next morning, we felt like new people. Nervous energy turned into pure excitement. Fear turned to a clear vision of our future together.
By Saturday, the wedding day itself, we were pinching ourselves at how beautifully everything unfolded.
Sometimes the challenges are just proof that what you're doing really matters.
4. The family that sweats together, sticks together.
We thought we were clever in skipping the tent setup fee…a giant wedding tent for 120 people ….
Let's just say it looked much smaller on paper.
But our whole family jumped in—lifting, decorating, correcting mistakes, laughing, and sweating together.
And you know what? It bonded us. It turns out that shared effort is powerful medicine.
5. The best things are worth the struggle.
