1. Things you love about your town:

I've lived in St. George since I was 2 years old. That's a total of 44 years in this area, so I consider myself a bit of an expert.....

I've never wanted to live anywhere else on this earth. The red sands of Dixie crept into my shoes as a young girl and I've never left since.

Our area is one of the most breathtaking, beautiful, and unique parts of the country. People travel from all over the world to come and see Zion National Park and Snow Canyon and Bryce Canyon and our own Kayenta/ Entrada. These gorgeous red rocks and stunning cliffs have been in my backyard my whole entire life. I actually took them for granted until I was about 30 years old, and we were driving down Snow Canyon State Park one summer evening at dusk. I turned to my husband and said, "WHERE DID THIS COME FROM??!!" I was taken aback that this incredible scenery was right in front of my eyes and I had just assumed everyone in the world had this to look at. I had spent elementary school years going on countless field trips to the very places that people plan YEARS to come and visit. I was truly humbled.

Yes, it gets HOT in the summer. But we deal with it by lots of air-conditioning, swimming, and planning outdoor activities mainly at night. June through mid September can be a bit rough for the outsider, but I feel that our beautiful mild autumn season helps. The REAL WINNER HERE is January through May-- I always feel a bit smug when I see other people on the internet complaining about the snow and the cold and the wind and the inversion--meanwhile it's a beautiful, clear, sunny day in the 50's ranging to the 80's here in St. George and life is GOOD. I tell visitors from out of town that we are the "Palm Springs of Utah".

2. Tell us something about your neighborhood:

 

My parents are developers in the St. George area and they developed our Sage Hollow subdivision from start to finish. I was employed as their "Gal Friday" so I was able to have input as well and I can tell you: we planned this subdivision very thoughtfully. The typical setback for a home on a lot in St. George is 25 feet from the front. We wanted this subdivision to feel more stately and felt that the lots were extra large for the area, so we required a 30 foot setback from the front. We had to have more than one contractor re-dig and re-pour footings as we were very vigilant. I think when you drive up our street from the bottom that this creates a difference--a feeling of expanse. I know 99% of people wouldn't know what it was or what to attribute it to. But I do.

The schools are EXCELLENT: the elementary school, Crimson View, is a STEM school and was constructed just 3 years ago. Our intermediate school is Sunrise Ridge and is also a newer build. Our 8th and 9th graders go to Desert Hills Middle School which is right next door to our famous Desert Hills High School which is less than 7 years old. We have deep-rooted traditions already in place with these schools and they are very coveted--some parents from other areas try to get their child into their schools in our area. Yes, they are THAT good.

4. What specifically drew you to the property?

 

Since my parents were the developers, from the inception of this subdivision I KNEW that this lot was destined to be ours. It was clearly the very best lot in what I felt was the very best neighborhood. We backed onto our side yard to a property owner who had planted a lot of trees in his backyard, so we felt we were already at an advantage. Our back yard is LITERALLY the mountain--it's in all it's glory ten feet from our back door and there is nothing that will ever obscure the views. We are IT.

Curb appeal was extremely important to us, both in planning our home and in designing the landscape. We hired one of the top landscaping firms in St. George to finish our front and back yards and never regretted a single penny. We planted a LOT of trees in our side yard--we felt that it would be important in contrast to the red of the mountain. We have 13 years of growth in our yards and they are beautiful and truly breathtaking. It makes our home very unique.

5. Hobbies in the area?

 

Our neighborhood is unreal--we have many who are original to the neighborhood (13 years old) and then have had new move ins as well. We have many families with many children of all ages who play outside from sun up to sun down. We also have a few retired couples in our neighborhood as well and they are well-loved by the children.

The thing I love about our neighborhood is the pride that every single home takes in their property--watch as you drive up the street and rarely will you find more than a few weeds in one yard. Everybody takes extreme pride in their homes and yard and it shows. Christmas time is also fun as many people like to drive up our street since we have so many homes with lights on them. It's a close-knit, friendly area and I've been so grateful for our children to grow up here, safe and loved and accepted. It's been an absolute blessing in our life.

6. Anything else?

 

The things that we feel are highlights of our home:

A large, open floor plan designed for entertaining and for comfort. I can't tell you how many times I've had someone come into our house and said that it "felt like a HOME". We agree completely.

My mother and my aunt both had dream laundry rooms when I was growing up back in the 80's. They were something that was both rare and coveted--NOBODY had laundry rooms like they did. I knew from the start of the floor plan design process that the laundry room would be spectacular. It's a room that's used for every purpose under the world at our house and we have more cabinets in our laundry room than many people have in their kitchen alone.

Our Kitchen is large and open and spacious and has a small hearth room area attached with a fireplace that family loves to gather in when we are cooking or preparing dinner. It's one of my favorite cozy corners to sit and read or talk to friends.

Our master bedroom is large and spacious with a HUGE bathroom attached. Many people wonder why we carpeted the main area of the bathroom: we decided to because it was such a large space that it almost felt like another living area! Obviously an easy thing to change if someone desires.

The downstairs is one great room that's exceptionally large. We have a good sized storage room and another room that could be an exercise room or play room ( we couldn't classify it as a bedroom because there is no window). There is one large bedroom downstairs with a great bathroom with two sinks downstairs that could almost be a separate living area in itself.

Our garage simply ROCKS. It's a 3 car garage that measures over 1100 square feet! We have more room in there than some people do in their apartment. It's one of our greatest assets.


In closing, I need to tell you that we have absolutely LOVED our home for our 13 years here. We are sad to be leaving--but with the loss of one job and the gaining of another, we have to make some sacrifices and this is our hugest. We cherish our memories in this area. Moving into our home in our Sage Hollow subdivision will be a decision you will never regret.
