Larkin Group Pie Day 2013 a Sweet Success!

by Jeremy Larkin

We did it again. Gave out a WHOLE BUNCH of pies to our Larkin Group Real Estate Clients that is. The "Pie Day" event started 4 or 5 years ago, I guess we stopped keeping track. But clients love the gesture, and we love doing it.

This year we did over 50 pies, last year more than that, but we held the event on Thanksgiving vs. the Christmas event this year as our planning was beyond poor coming into the end of the year.

St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm

by Jeremy Larkin

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site is an awesome way to take a glimpse back into the Jurassic age! Just in case you thought that St. George couldn't get any cooler, I'm here to tell you that that isn't true! We also have one of the best preserved and numerous dinosaur tracks today! So if you are interested in this, here is some background:

Dr. Shelton Johnson was leveling the soil on his land for farming, when he suddenly found a harder Sedimentary Rock formation. Curious, he looked more thoroughly and found that they were dinosaur tracks! Knowing they should be maintained for education and science, he donated the land with the tracks on it to the City of St. George, which then created the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm to display some of the findings.

The Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10AM to 5PM, and closed on holidays. A great way to stay out of the cold this winter, It costs $6 for an adult and $3 for children 3-11. Children under 3 are free. Go to www.dinosite.org for more information on the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm.

SunRiver Golf Course

by Jeremy Larkin

SunRiver Golf Course is a need-to-go-to course. One of the biggest activities in Southern Utah and surrounding areas is golfing. Therefor we have some amazing golf courses around town that are worth going to if you’re the type of person that loves to golf.

Sun River Golf Course

Located just off of exit 2 from I-15, SunRiver Golf Course is a very unique and classy golf course with the desert surroundings and the actual grass tees. They are the only St.George Golf Course to have actual grass tees. There are 6704 yards with 18 holes occupying it. SunRiver is an award winning retirement community with everyone loving the course!

The cost of a normal 18 hole game at SunRiver Golf Course can range between $30-$60, depending on when in the year you decide to go. With this golf course, you select your tee time when you pay, and then you go at that exact time to play.

Overall, it is a great course, and if you're a golfer, you should come to St.George and see this course for yourself!

The Mammals of Zion National Park

by Kendall Clements, Escape Properties

Zion National Park offers so many wonderful things to see, especially the wildlife. And when I say wildlife, I mean the animals that live there! When you visit Zion National Park, you will most likely see one or two of these mammals, so why don't you get a bit acquainted with them now?

Mule Deer Zion National ParkMule Deer: This is one of the largest mammals that is found in Zion National Park. They are known for being very adaptive to the heat. This is due to their 9-inch mule-like ears because the blood vessels are close to the skins surface, which help disperse the heat. A picture of a mule deer is to the right.

Rock Squirrel: These are squirrels that prefer rocky terrain. They love the canyon walls and the waterways, so you might see them along the Riverside Walk. Squirrels have a decent amount of water in Zion, but if there is a drought, rock squirrels can go 100 days without water.

Ringtail Cat: This animal is related to the raccoon and are very abundant in Zion National Park. They don't like to be out in the dark, so you would see them in the middle of the day most likely. They can climb very well, so they do well in Zion National Park.  A picture is to the right.

Mountain Lion: This is the top predator in Zion National Park. They are very efficient hunters and are very silent when they stalk their prey, which are generally the mule deer and bighorn sheep.

There are so many animals in Zion National Park that you would need to take a trip to see the amazing wildlife they have! It's beautiful almost all year round, other than occasional winter snows (which melt quickly), and of course oppressive afternoon summer heat – gotta go early! Not only that, it’s the perfect place to hike, camp, and just be outdoors! Feel free to contact me below for more information about Zion National Park.
